It is another day, sitting in my room and using my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. It was all good, until Apple came up with new OS X, called "Mavericks." I was happy, honestly. Mainly because I was tired of using the "Mountain Lion." It was kind the old and it was time for something new. Mavericks promised many new features, such as speeding up applications etc. So, I updated it. After about 2-3 hours, my MacBook Pro was updated to new OS X Mavericks. It was working flawlessly smooth and fast.
(Side note to other users trying to update your OS X to Mavericks, the reason it took 2-3 hours was because I had my mechanical drive upgraded to size of 500 GB, so it was not SSD (Solid State Drive). Of course, new upgraded HDD was twice faster than my default drive, which Apple had install (250 GB). For your information, I updated the MacBook Air and took about 30 - 45 mins to finish and it had SSD.)
Anyway, after finished installing OS X Mavericks, i start working my way to install all the application that i usually use. These are normal apps, such as Microsoft word document, Adobe Photoshop and other Apple based software. This was time consuming operation and to make things worst, after all the hard work, my computer became slow. The RAM would barely have 500 Mb free space and i have not even open Photoshop, just Google Chrome Browser and one other small application. I started freeing up space from my RAM, constantly and it would not do the trick. So, I turned to Apple Support community and turns out that it was not only me. Keep in mind that i have only 4 Gb RAM. With much reading and not help at all, I turned  what I thought was best idea. Upgrading my RAM to 8 Gb. I understand it is costly upgrade, about $100 for 2x4Gb Corsair RAM. The reason behind my upgrade approach was mainly with new OS X Mavericks. Because, what Mavericks does, was that it pre-opens all the application in your computer and waits until you use one of them. Of course, the RAM is essential on application's operation, since it is needed to open application and load its information. It is computer 101 lesson. This is the reason your MacBook Pro is slow. Well, positive side of this is that it gives the applications instant response. If you check Apple Store website, you will see the new MacBook Pro's come in 8 GB minimum. Top Tech tip for you is to first download Memory Clean from App Store and see if your computer has this slow problem. 90% chance that you will have this problem if you have 4 GB RAM. Good things about the RAM changing is that it is easy. No software require, just open the back of your MacBook Pro and swap the old ones with new ones.
